UBC Thunderbirds Kick Off Virtual Vancouver Homecoming Weekend


VANCOUVER – UBC’s biggest school spirit event of the year is just a few weeks away as Homecoming 2021 kicks off on Friday, September 17e.

For the second year in a row, our showcase will be celebrated virtually. While the typical sold-out soccer game and street party will have to wait until 2022, the spirit of reunion is alive and well with a range of virtual activities spanning the weekend for students, students, teachers and students. alumni, staff, faculty and supporters.

Homecoming 2021, presented by RBC, begins with a special video celebration – “The Thunder Returns” – featuring messages from community leaders, including UBC President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Santa J. Ono, and highlights of the UBC Thunder mascot’s preparation for the upcoming school and university. sports year.

The half-hour program will also include a special home performance by talented Canadian singer-songwriter Tate McRae.

The kick-off video presentation will be uploaded at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 17e. You can watch from the comfort of your home, on your mobile device wherever you are, or people on campus can join in at Alma Mater’s Society’s “Almost” Welcome Back BBQ for an evening of screening followed by six hours of live musical performances by local musicians and DJs, all taking place in the plaza just west of the Nest.

The Friday afternoon deals are just the start of a weekend filled with online activities like a guided beer tasting, reunion trivia, a kids’ cooking class and more.

UBC Homecoming is open to the public for free. While activities are available throughout the weekend, everyone is encouraged to pre-register as some events require an RSVP.
