There are 1,700 AA recognized restaurants across the country. Currently, there is none in Birmingham that has five and only one in the region that has four.

Peel’s is a Michelin-starred restaurant within the Hampton Manor hotel in Shadowbrook Lane, in the village of Hampton-in-Arden.

The Gothic house is surrounded by 45 acres of land and was originally built for the son of Sir Robert Peel.

The restaurant itself has a Victorian walled garden from which it draws inspiration for its tasting menus.

There is also a vegetarian alternative, priced at £ 95.

The chef at Hampton Manor is Darren Meacham, who was sous chef at the restaurant when he was awarded a Michelin star.

Three restaurants in neighboring Warwickshire have won three AA Rosettes – The Cross at Kenilworth, The Dining Room at Mallory Court Hotel in Leamington Spa and Salt, in Stratford-upon-Avon.

The AA says about 10 percent of restaurants nationwide are of a rosette-worthy level or higher.

To get five, restaurants must show “very individual voices” and “breathtaking cooking skills and setting standards that others aspire to but few achieve.”
