CLARKSVILLE, TN (NOW CLARKSVILLE) – The community has a new statue honoring the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell. The tip of the spear was revealed Saturday during a ceremony at Patriot’s Park on Fort Campbell Boulevard.

The eagle sculpture, named the Screaming Eagle and made possible by Montgomery County, stands 22 feet tall and weighs 7,000 pounds, not including the base, and is sculpted from stainless steel.

The piece was designed by sculptor Mark Aeling.

Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett said the sculpture should serve as a reminder to the men and women of Fort Campbell.

“We support them. We can’t go out to fight wars, but we can take care of their loved ones here at home. Hopefully it’s just a lasting legacy for them to know that we care and love them,” Durrett said.

The tip of the spear is at Patriots Park, 3176 Fort Campbell Blvd., with plans to light the statue overnight.
