Michigan’s Best Local Dishes: Family Recipe Guides from Nick’s Original House of Pancakes

ANN ARBOR, MI – Nick Panos takes pride in his “Cooking from Scratch”.

“We break our own eggs,” said Panos, owner of Nick’s Original House of Pancakes in Ann Arbor. “We make our own dough. “

The recipe for the dough, a well-kept secret, was created by her aunt, who also owns a local restaurant.

Nick’s Original House of Pancakes, 3030 Lohr Circle, is celebrating its 13th anniversary in December, Panos said. The restaurant focuses on breakfast food, serving omelets, cookies, and gravy and, of course, pancakes.

“Obviously, the pancakes are the highlight,” Panos said.

Panos serves the classics – including chocolate chip, banana and strawberry pancakes – as well as potato pancakes, multigrain pancakes and ‘fruit explosion’ pancakes, which contain blackberries, blueberries and strawberries.

Nick’s Original House of Pancakes also serves seasonal pancakes, with summer’s lemongrass blueberries turning into pumpkin pancakes with the onset of fall.

“Seasonal workers are always hot,” Panos said.

Serving locally sourced food is important to Panos. The burgers on its lunch menu use meat from Knight’s Market.

“We support the local because we are local,” said Panos.

Nick’s Original House of Pancakes is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. On-site dining, take-out, and delivery are all available.
