Cook Children’s Medical Center marks a milestone in the construction of a new hospital in Prosper

Cook’s children’s health care system marked a symbolic milestone this month in building its second hospital, starting a countdown to its grand opening in 2022 at a 23-acre site in Prosper.

On October 11, the pediatric health group shared a video with the audience of a “tallying” ceremony in which the last beam was put in place on the Prosper campus of the Cook Children’s Medical Center.

“Serving families in Collin and Denton Counties and beyond, our new medical center is designed with the child in mind,” said Rick W. Merrill, President and CEO of Cook Children’s. “When families walk through these doors, they can expect to have a completely self-centered experience. The care that will occur inside and outside these walls will be carried out with great care and compassion, keeping in mind all the needs of the child.

Primary and urgent care services, a surgery center and a full outpatient specialty have already been open on the Prosper campus since 2019, according to a press release.

The new pediatric inpatient hospital will open in phases, first with a 10-bed emergency room and a 10-bed pediatric intensive care unit. The hospital will also have four operating theaters, three intervention rooms, an infusion center, a pharmacy and a laboratory.

“The closing event marks an important milestone in our promise to improve the health of every child,” said Kevin Greene, assistant vice president and director of Cook Children’s-Prosper. “Through our comprehensive network of emergency, primary and specialty care clinics, our Cook Children team has already received more than 160,000 patient visits in the North region since our doors opened in October 2019. “

Cook Children’s has announced that it will hire more than 120 positions for Prosper Medical Center.
